With the hectic and bustle of our city life, it has become a norm for us to sacrifice quality sleep. Moreover, smartphone and social media lures are not making things easier. We are always tempted to check on the latest updates on our social media platforms. We also can’t keep our mind at ease without checking any work emails or issues.
It reminds me of a friend’s idea of retiring in Bhutan. With internet connection not always available, it might not be a bad idea for a well-balanced lifestyle. We are leading a life where we are tempted to be always wired on- the devices are having control over us more than the other way round.
Having quality sleep is important for our well-being and is often overlooked. It is ideal to have at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep a day.
In this post, I will be sharing 5 ways you could work on to build up a better sleep routine.
The benefits of heading to bed and waking up at the same time every day are enormous. Keeping a consistent bedtime is as important as the length of time a person sleep. Being able to wake up in the morning would lead to feeling more focused and energised throughout the day. If you add on a yoga or meditation session, it will further enhance the effect of the quality sleep you are getting. Our brains react well to routines- keeping the same routine will help combat feelings of lethargy.
Exercising helps us to get into a normal sleep regime. Endorphins are released, they are our body’s natural anti-depressant-great for battling depression and stress. By exercising, it will be able to lift up our moods and hence contribute to the wellness of both the mind and body. You can start off with a simple 20 minutes walk and progress from there.
Get Yourself Some Fresh Air
It is crucial to get sunlight and fresh air on a daily basis. You not only get Vitamin D but also freshen your mind. It gives your body time to relax. No matter how moody you are, get outside and embrace what mother earth and nature have to offer us. It will do wonders over the long haul.
Establish A Bedtime Routine
You should establish a bedtime routine and let your mind and body get used to it. Keeping to a thing for 21 days will make it a habit and for 3 months- a lifestyle. Try to wind down an hour before sleep. Keep the electronic devices away and settle for a nice book or magazine instead. Let your body warm down and a short meditation session will be a good addition to your routine. Having a soothing cup of tea before bed would be a treat after a hard day’s work.
By creating an ideal place for sleep would enhance your sleep experience. Try to get a good mattress and also great blackout curtains. Do make your room as dark as possible and also keep noises if any to the least. The bottom line is to make your room as zen as possible. It will be a haven that you will be looking forward to retreating every night.
That’s all from me for this post and hope everyone will be able to create a wonderful sleep routine. Sweet Dreams Ahead.
